
Jacquelynn Tang earned her first two career victories with wins against Cincinnati and Georgetown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange tennis, track and field and swimming and diving teams were all in action over the weekend and each posted impressive performances. Tennis kicked off its 2008 season with wins against Cincinnati and Georgetown, while the track and field team had eight performances qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Swimming and diving began BIG EAST competition with a dual-meet sweep at Seton Hall.
Second year tennis head coach Luke Jensen did some maneuvering and managed to return three days early from his ESPN analyst responsibilities at the Australian Open, to guide his Orange to a 6-1 victory against Cincinnati on Friday, Jan. 25 at Drumlins Tennis Center. SU collected five of the six singles victories after sweeping the Bearcats in doubles play. Three Orange student-athletes posted their first career collegiate singles victories: freshmen Christina Tan (6-3, 6-1), Simone Kalhorn (6-4,6-2) and Jacquelynn Tang (6-1,1-5, 6-4).
The Orange continued its success with a 7-0 victory against Georgetown at the Drumlins Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 27. Syracuse earned two wins in doubles play as junior Maria Vasilyeva and sophomore Chelsea Jones won at the No. 2 position with an 8-1 showing. Sophomore Ashley Spicer and Tang teamed up for an 8-6 triumph in the final match.

The Orange competed at the Penn State National Open on Saturday, Jan. 26 and junior Sky Simmons won the 500m dash (1:03.71) and was one of eight student-athletes to qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Graduate student Jordan Davis qualified with a third-place finish in the 3000m (8:13.23), while sophomore Jay Koloseus earned an ECAC/IC4A spot in the 3,000m (8:23.99)
Senior Kyle Heath earned an invite with a seventh-place finish in the mile run (4:08.96) and freshman Liz McCarter qualified with a second-place time in the 1,000m (2:55.63). Senior Nana Sang-Bender (4:55.96) and Maegan Krifchin (4:56.80) finished ninth and tenth, respectively, and qualified. Senior Liz Cufari also qualified for the championships with a 10th-place tally in the 3,000m (9:58.32).

Syracuse was in the water for its first BIG EAST dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Seton Hall. The women's team claimed victories in 13 of 16 events en route to a 182.00-114.00 win, while the men won 10 events for a 170.50-120.50 victory.
Junior Catrina Roth and Natalie Mazzetta highlighted the women's competition with three victories apiece. Roth touched first in the 100 back (59.52), the 200 back (2:06.80) and the 200 IM (2:12.43), while Mazzetta was victorious in the 1,000 free (season-best 10:15.35), the 200 fly (2:05.29) and the 500 free (5:03.26).
The men had three multi-even winners with sophomore Boldizsar Kiss winning the 200 fly (1:52.03) and the 100 fly (season-best 51.96), freshman Kuba Kotynia won the 200 breast (2:05.74) and the 200 IM (1:57.32) and senior diver Patrick White dove to top scores in the one-meter dive (273.00) and the three-meter dive (297.68).
