
Skelly Secures Syracuse's First CHA Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse freshman forward Megan Skelly (Taber, Alberta) received the Orange’s first conference award in program history on Monday afternoon when she was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week.
Skelly earned the award after her two-point performance on Saturday night against CHA opponent Robert Morris in a 3-2 setback. Skelly recorded the Orange’s first powerplay goal of the year in the opening period against the Colonials. The freshman winger also chipped in with an assist on freshman Lisa Mullan’s (Victoria, British Columbia) first career goal in the third period on Saturday night.
Skelly is tied for third in the conference in points scored (2 G, 2 A) with Niagara’s Frances McPhail. She is tied with five other CHA skaters for goals scored, as well. Skelly is also even with eight others in third place with two assists through five games. Nationally, Skelly is tied for 21st in points per game for all rookies with Connecticut’s Rebecca Hewett.
Skelly leads the Orange with four points. In five games, she has registered two goals and two assists, including Syracuse’s landmark first goal nine seconds into the Colgate contest. Skelly has scored first for the Orange in both contests SU has put the puck in the net.
Following SU’s conference-opening weekend against Robert Morris, the Orange travels to Hamden, Conn. to skate against ECAC component Quinnipiac. Game times are set for Friday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. Both teams are in search of their first victory of the season.
