SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Spencer Schomaker (Seattle, Wash.) is the Syracuse University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 6, 2008.
The Syracuse men’s soccer team took on the USF Bulls for a BIG EAST contest in Tampa, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 3. The Orange battled USF to a 0-0 draw. The Bulls had won its last five outings dating back to early September, including four straight conference victories, before the Orange put the first blemish on their league record.
Syracuse posted its seventh shutout in 10 games this year, the most blankings for an Orange squad in one season since the 1994 club also recorded seven shutouts.
Schomaker led the Orange with two shots on target. The senior has started all 10 games this season, recording one goal and one assist in 2008. Schomaker’s one goal this season was the difference-maker against Marquette. The psychology major has fired the most shots for the Orange with 29, and is second on the roster with 11 shots on goal.
The Orange stays on the road with a division match against #2/2 St. John’s on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Belson Stadium. Syracuse returns to the SU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11 for a BIG EAST showdown with Rutgers at 7 p.m., starting a three-game homestand for SU.
