Women’s Rowing Records Two First-Place Finishes

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse University women’s rowing team recorded two first place finishes today at the annual Syracuse Invitational on Onondaga Lake. The varsity eight (Bow-Katie Lynch, 2-Susan Groff, 3-Sydney Axson, 4-Heidi Bulk, 5-Rachel Ogundarin, 6-Natalie Mastracci, 7-Kaitlin Grant, Stroke-Liz Henwood, Coxswain-Kate Todd) won its race with a time of 17:54.9, 35 seconds faster than second-place Buffalo. The novice eight (Bow-Keriann Miller, 2-Tiffany Macon, 3-Carmen Failla, 4-Elizabeth McGehee, 5-Naomi Carlson, 6-Tija Bross, 7-Annie Couwenhoven, Stroke-Mary Carlson, Coxswain-Allison Todd) also won its race in 18:23.2, 1:07 faster than second-place finisher, Cornell.
SU’s varsity eight “B” boat (Bow-Christine DePompeo, 2-Anne van Houten, 3-Ashley Tabor, 4-Sarah Stapp, 5-Julia Ruskin, 6-Jacque Lee, 7-Jess Tacinelli, Stroke-Allison Erkhe, Coxswin-Lydia Wong) placed third in 18:41.4 and SU’s “C” boat (Bow-Kelsey Wiemer, 2-Ali Sayer, 3-Lauren Silverstein, 4-Brittany Jock, 5-Mandy DeHaven, 6-Brandis Arcadia, 7-Mary-Ellen Anderson, Stroke -Alex Pines, Coxswain-Mikela Almeida) finished 12th (20:26.7).
Syracuse’s novice eight “B” boat (Bow-Liz Watson, 2-Zoe Silverman, 3-Erica Merola, 4-Haley Sorensen, 5-Anna Stolzenburg, 6-Calli Giannopoulos, 7-Natalie McCrudden, Stroke-Megan Garvey, Coxswain-Alyssa Dupre) placed third (19:37.0).
The Orange also had a good showing the fours with SU’s “A” boat (Bow-Rachel Ogundarin, 2-Natalie Mastracci, 3-Allison Erkhe, Stroke-Liz Henwood, Coxswain-Kate Todd) finishing third in 19:45.3. Syracuse’s “B” boat (Bow-Katie Lynch, 2-Jess Tacinelli, 3-Sydney Axson, Stroke-Heidi Bulk, Coxswain-Lydia Wong) placed fourth (19:47.9) and SU’s “C” boat (Bow-Christine DePompeo, 2-Sarah Stapp, 3-Susan Groff, Stroke-Kaitlin Grant, Coxswain-Emily White) was fifth (20:01.2).
SU placed third, sixth, ninth and 15th in the varsity four “B” flight. SU’s “D” boat (Bow-Mary-Ellen Anderson, 2-Anne van Houten, 3-Julia Ruskin, Stroke-Jacque Lee, Coxswain-Mikela Almeida) was third (20:28.6). The “E” boat (Bow-Mandy DeHaven, 2-Brittany Jock, 3-Brandis Arcadia, Stroke-Ashley Tabor, Coxswain-Catherine Wilcox) was sixth (21:00.4). The Orange “F” boat (Bow-Jessica Arevalo, 2-Ali Sayer, 3- Kelsey Wiemer, Stroke-Alex Pines, Coxswain-Emily White) placed ninth (21:35.1) and SU’s “G” novice boat (Bow-Laura Stewart, 2-Katie Lapi, 3- Erica Lichthardt, Stroke-Caitlin Cronin, Coxswain-Kaitlin Yannie) was 15th (21:35.1).
The Orange concludes the fall season in Boston, Mass. at the Foot of the Charles on Saturday, November 15.
