
Orange Swimmers Perform Well at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The Syracuse men's and women's swimming and diving team continued the 2008-09 season Saturday afternoon at Boston University. The Orange women won five events, while the Orange men won six, including a sweep of the 200-yard butterfly.
Leading the women was sophomore Natalie Mazzetta who won both the 1,000 free (10:26.52) and the 200 fly (2:06.04). Seniors Catrina Roth and Dani Stein each won an event. Roth took first in the 200 back at a clip of 2:06.01, while Stein won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.29. Junior diver Kristen Thomas was the top performer for the SU divers. She took fourth place out of eight with a score of 206.85.
Junior Boldiszar Kiss was the men's leader against BU. He won both the 200-yard IM (1:55.15) and the 200 fly (1:51.83). Following close behind in the 200 IM was sophomore Kuba Kotynia who took second place at 1:55.90. Senior Peter Gollands and junior Moshe Kohen rounded out the men's sweep of the 200 fly with times of 1:26.07 and 1:28.19, respectively. Senior Matt Gerlach won the 1,000 free for the men (9:49.24), while sophomore Berk Kahraman (1:53.05) and junior Arda Isiksalan (1:55.32) took first and second place, respectively, in the 200 backstroke. Kotynia rounded out the men's performances with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.75).
Both the men and women each won one relay event. The men's team of Kahraman, Kiss, Kotynia and junior Alex Taraskin won the men's 200-yard Medley Relay (1:34.84). The women's team of junior Carolyn Delkus, senior Sarah Manning, junior Katelyn Schumacher and sophomore Katlin O'Hara won the women's 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:37.35).
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action November 20-22 in Columbia, S.C. at the Gamecock Invitational.
