
Orange Women Win Seton Hall Dual Meet

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In its second home dual meet of the season, the Orange swimming and diving team split a dual meet with Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon. The Orange women won 165-134, while the Orange men suffered a slight setback to the Pirates, 164-132. The Syracuse women side took home twelve first place finishes and the men recorded eight.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In its second home dual meet of the season, the Orange swimming and diving team split a dual meet with Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon. The Orange women won 165-134, while the Orange men suffered a slight setback to the Pirates, 164-132. The Syracuse women side took home twelve first place finishes and the men recorded eight.
On the women’s side, sophomore Natalie Mazzetta and senior Catrina Roth each won three events. Mazzetta won the 1,000 Free (10:28.62), the 200 Fly (2:06.82) and the 100 Fly (59.73). Roth grabbed first in the 100 Back (58.86), the 200 Back (2:07.35) and the 200 IM (2:11.53).
Seniors Sarah Manning and Dani Stein each registered two event wins. Manning won both the 200 Free (1:56.63) and the 500 Free (5:11.81) and Stein won both the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.78) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:25.60). Senior Katlin O’Hara rounded out the top finishers for the women claiming a victory in the 100 Free (54.26).
In addition, the women had at least one swimmer in the top three in eight events. Manning placed third in the 1,000 Free (10:50.57) and junior Katelyn Schumacher placed third in both the 200 Fly (2:17.96) and 100 Fly (1:02.90). O’Hara finished the 50 Free in 25.00 for a second place finish and sophomore Stephanie Kuczynski touched the wall in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:34.32 for third place. Stein finished the 200 IM shortly after Roth for second place with a time of 2:11.76.
Junior diver Kristen Thomas registered a third place finish in the one-meter diver with a score of 202.65. She also placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 211.65.
Junior Alex Taraskin won three events for the Orange men, including the 200 Free (1:44.12), 100 Free (47.27) and the 500 Free (4:47.95). Sophomore Kuba Kotynia and junior Boldiszar Kiss won two events each. Kotynia won both the 100 Breastroke (57.69) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:04.20), while Kiss took first in the 100 Fly (51.78) and the 200 Fly (1:52.52). Senior Matt Gerlach won the 1,000 Free for the men with a time of 9:55.56.
The men had at least one swimmer in the top three in nine events. Junior Arda Isiksalan and Kiss placed second and third, respectively, in the 100 back. Isiksalan finished at a clip of 52.92 and Kiss was not far behind at 53.02.
Senior Peter Gollands placed third in both the 200 Fly (1:56.24) and the 100 Fly (52.68). Junior Ryan Corcoran was the top swimmer for the Orange men in the 50 Free with a second place time of 22.22.

Isiksalan and sophomore Berk Kahraman placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 Back. Isiksalan had a time of 1:54.79 and Kahraman touched the wall in 1:56.30. Kiss and Kotynia both competed in the 200 IM. Kiss was second at 1:56.60 and Kotynia was third seconds later at 1:58.47. Freshman diver Frank Squadrito finished third in the one-meter dive with a score of 129.38.
In the relays, the Syracuse women won both the 400-yard Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Roth, Stein, Schumacher and O’Hara teamed up in the 400 Medley Relay recording a time of 3:59.87, while Schumacher, Manning, Mazzetta and O’Hara won the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:40.26.
The Orange men took second in the same two events. Kahraman, Kotynia, Kiss and Taraskin posted a time of 3:28.28 in the 400 Medley Relay, while Corcoran, Kahraman, Gollands and junior Moshe Kohen grouped together for a time of 1:28.59 in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
The Syracuse swimming and diving team will be back in action on February 7 at Villanova for its final dual meet of the season. The team will host the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday, February 14 for its final home meet of the season.
