SYRACUSE, N.Y.–The third-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team makes its third appearance in the national quarterfinals on Sunday, November 16 when it faces No. 9 Princeton (17-2) at J.S. Coyne Stadium. SU has never won an NCAA quarterfinal contest in two previous tries (1993, 2001). Senior back Shannon Taylor (Midlothian, Va.) scored a pair of goals to lead SU to a 3-2 win against No. 17 Massachusetts in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship on Saturday at Coyne Stadium. Big Ten Player of the Year, Katie Reinprecht, scored both goals as the Tigers defeated Penn State, 2-0 in their first round game.

Syracuse and Princeton have met 10 times, with the Tigers boasting an 8-2 advantage. The Orange is 0-4 all-time against the Tigers in Syracuse. Princeton defeated Syracuse, 3-0, in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
Princeton (17-2) defeated Stanford, 8-2, on November 11 in a NCAA play-in game to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament and Penn State, 2-0, in the first round. The Tigers have won their last eight games. Princeton making its 13th trip to the NCAA tournament and is 15-12 overall. Princeton last played in the NCAA tournament in 2006, when it upset third-seeded Old Dominion in the opening round before losing to Connecticut in the national quarterfinals. Princeton was 4-2 against tournament teams as it defeated Albany, American and Penn State (twice), and lost to national top-seed Maryland and Connecticut. Reinprecht has tallied a team-best 42 points and 12 assists. Jennifer King and Cynthia Wray have split time in cage, registering a combined 1.35 goals-against-average and a .708 saves percentage. King been the more consistent of the two, recording a 0.60 goals-against-average and a .838 saves percentage in 11 games.
