SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men’s soccer team was rewarded for its work in the classroom with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for 2007-08. Syracuse finished with a team grade-point average of 3.05 on a scale of 4.0.
The Orange was one of 103 men’s teams across all three NCAA divisions to be honored. To be eligible for the award, teams must carry a minimum GPA of 3.0.
The 2007-08 academic year marks the fourth time since the NSCAA Team Academic Award was instituted in 1996, that Syracuse has been recognized. The Orange also earned the award in 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03.
The honor is the latest academic award bestowed on the Orange men’s soccer squad. Earlier this fall, senior Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team for his work in the classroom and the community. He was also won of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, presented to the most outstanding Division I men’s soccer student-athlete.
The Orange recorded its first winning season since 1999 in 2008. Syracuse was 8-6-3 overall and posted victories over two ranked opponents, including a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Louisville in its season finale.
