Three Orange Soccer Players Part of Canadian Olympic Team Pool

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three Syracuse University men’s soccer players have been selected to the pool of players who will compete for spots on the Canadian U-23 National Team. Senior defender Brad Peetoom (Abbottsford, British Columbia), junior goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) and junior forward Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) are among several players under consideration for the team that will participate in CONCACAF qualifying for the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Peetoom finished his career as one of the most accomplished defensive players in school history. A two-time team captain and a 2007 All-BIG EAST selection, Peetoom contributed to 19 shutouts in his career, including six in last season. He also notched five goals and two assists during his SU tenure.
Cavicchia ranks sixth at SU in career saves (221) and owns 1.14 goals-against average, the fourth-best mark in school history. He finished with 74 saves in 2007 and posted four shutouts.
Hall has tallied nine goals and five assists in two seasons for a total of 23 points. He had four goals and one assist in 2007, including two goals in the Orange’s victory against Fordham.
Canada has been drawn into Group B for the 2008 CONCACAF U-23 Championship. It will play three matches in Carson, Calif. at the Home Depot Center between March 12-16. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals on March 20 in Nashville, Tenn. The winners of each semifinal will qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics and compete for the CONCACAF Championship on March 23.
The others nations competing against Canada in Group B are Mexico, Guatemala and Haiti.
