The Orange softball team began its 2008 campaign with four games at the Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor from Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17. The tournament was originally scheduled to feature six Orange contest, but due to heavy rain on Saturday, the squad only played four games. Tennis was back in action during the weekend with back-to-back victories against Seton Hall and Connecticut. The team also was in action Friday with a match at Cornell. The track and field team completed the 2007-08 regular season on Friday at the Binghamton Triangular.
The Syracuse softball team was in action at the Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor from Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17. The Orange was scheduled to play six games during the three-day affair, but due to inclement weather only competed on Friday and Sunday. In the season-opener, SU lost to Centenary 4-3 after a seventh-inning comeback by the Ladies. No. 7/10 Baylor defeated Syracuse 8-0 in six innings during the late game. Saturday's games were a wash and the Orange returned on Sunday with losses against Purdue, 10-0, in five innings and against the Bears, 6-1.
During the season-opener freshman third baseman Hallie Gibbs hit a homerun in her very first collegiate at-bat, becoming the first SU freshman to accomplish the feat. Gibbs was named to the Getterman Classic All-Tournament Team. Another freshman that had success was utility player Tawni Irvine, who spoiled Baylor's no-hitter on Friday with single in the fifth inning. She finished the weekend going 2-for-6.

The Orange tennis team improved its BIG EAST record to a flawless 4-0 following back-to-back convincing victories against Seton Hall and Connecticut. Syracuse rolled to a 7-0 sweep against the Pirates at the Drumlins Tennis Center before besting the Huskies 6-1 on the road. Sophomore Ashley Spicer has tallied a team-best 8-2 record in singles play, while freshmen Christina Tan and Jacquelynn Tang own a 7-3 mark. Through 10 matches, four members of the Orange own at least 13 overall wins, including Spicer’s club-leading 14.

The Syracuse men and women’s indoor track & field team completed the 2007-08 indoor regular season on February 15 at the Binghamton Triangular. Senior Jillian Drouin, graduate Sheron Mark and freshman Shamel Lewis highlighted the Orange charges. Drouin finished first in the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying tally of 1.71m. Mark earned her fourth event crowns of the indoor season with first-place and ECAC-qualifying performances in the long jump (5.97m) and triple jump (12.57m). Lewis, competing in just his second indoor meet of the season, finished first in the 55m dash with an IC4A-qualifying time of 6.43 seconds.
Additionally, freshman Catherine DeSarle (5:06.45) and sophomore Maegan Krifchin (2:15.61) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the 3,000m run and 800m, respectively. Sophomore Monica Ridgeway earned an invite to the conference finals with a distance of 12.97m in the shot put. Senior Michael Cox (15.80m) and freshman Kwaku Boah (15.26m) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the weight throw.
