Olympic Dreams: Kyle Hall and Team Canada Can Qualify for the Summer Olympics Tomorrow

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Syracuse junior forward Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) and the Canadian U-23 National Team can qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with a victory against the U.S. in the second semifinal of the CONCACAF U-23 Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Thursday, March 19. The match kicks off at 9 p.m. from LP Field in Nashville, Tenn. on the Fox Soccer Channel.
The first semifinal pits Guatemala against Honduras at 6 p.m. Thursday’s winners will automatically qualify for the Olympics and advance to the tournament’s championship match on Sunday, March 23.
Hall scored what proved to be the goal that put the Canucks in the semifinals on Sunday. His tally in the final minute of a 5-0 victory against Guatemala clinched second place in Group B on goal differential (+4 to +3) over Mexico. Guatemala finished first in Group B.
The U.S. went 2-0-1 in group play to claim first place in Group A. The American team features several professional players including Maurice Edu, Jozy Altidore and Charlie Davies.
Hall, who tied for second on the Orange with four goals in 2007, has appeared in all three matches for the Canucks thus far.
He has nine goals and 23 points in two seasons at Syracuse.
