SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Kyle Heath led the Syracuse outdoor track & field charge on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of North Carolina State. Heath finished second in the Section I 1500m run with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:49.11.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Kyle Heath led the Syracuse outdoor track & field charge on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of North Carolina State. Heath finished second in the Section I 1500m run with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:49.11.
Heath carries a stellar indoor season into the Orange’s outdoor campaign. He finished second on Saturday behind Samuel Burley, a member of the Asics professional running team. Heath capped the indoor season with a school-record time of 4:01.68 in the one-mile run at the University of Washington.
Sophomore Dan Busby finished first in the Section II 1500m run with a time of 3:57.47. Heath and Busby joined teammates Jay Koloseus and Jordan Davis with a school-record time of 15:35.16 in the 4x1500m relay. The third-place finish eclipsed the former Orange standard established in 1981 by Charlie Bevier, Jim O’Connell, Larry Kirk and Kenneth Heinrich.
Rookie Flings Owusu-Agyapong placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 12.04 seconds.
Graduate Aulton Kohn finished fourth in the 200m dash invitational, totaling a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 21.83 seconds. Kohn posted the third-ranked performance in the preliminary round of the 100m dash on Friday, posting a time of 10.55 seconds.
Sophomore Lorraine Hill finished seventh and qualified for the ECAC Championship with a toss of 41.92m in the javelin. Senior Kaity Lambracht (32.58) and Jillian Drouin (31.45m) placed 10th and 13th, respectively.
Drouin finished 12th in the 100m hurdles, recording a time of 14.83 seconds.
Sophomore Curtis Bixler’s fifth-place performance and time of 9:17.06 in the 3000m steeplechase qualifies for the BIG EAST Championship. Rookie Michael Brocks (9:30.80) placed ninth.
Sophomores Lynne Mundy (11:14.68) and Stefanie Slekis (11:20.52) qualified for the conference finals with 10th and 11th finishes, respectively, in the 3000m steeplechase.
The Syracuse 4x100m relay team of Kohn, senior Ramon Sosa, junior Terry Marshall and freshman Shamel Lewis finished 12th with an ICA-qualifying performance of 42.25 seconds.
Senior Randy Heubel placed eighth in the javelin with a distance of 52.40m.
The Orange men and women’s outdoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday, April 5 at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
