PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman shooting guard Erica Morrow was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 20.7 points in the Orange's three games from Feb. 26 through March 3, the league announced on Monday. Morrow started the week by making a game-winning three-pointer in SU's 68-67 victory against Georgetown. She followed that performance with a team-high 15 points in a 64-49 loss at No. 4/4 Rutgers. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native totaled a career-high 25 points to lead the Orange to a 73-51, regular-season finale victory against No. 14/13 West Virginia.
Morrow is second on the team with 13.4 points per game and with 3.8 assists per outing and has been named to the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice this season (Dec. 24 and Feb. 11). She has scored more than 20 points four times this year and has reached the double-figures barrier 20 times. In the last 11 games, she has led the team with 17.0 points per game and was second with 4.3 assists per outing.
Against Georgetown, she was given the ball with less than 20 ticks remaining to nail the game-winner, which avenged a 78-71 loss to the Hoyas on Feb. 2. Morrow totaled 22 points behind 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point line. She added four assists and a team-best two steals.
She contributed 15 points and six rebounds at Rutgers and posted a career-high point total against West Virginia. Verses the Mountaineers, she was 5-of-11 from three-point range and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Morrow leads the Orange to its first BIG EAST Championship since the 2005 season. SU, the sixth-seed, faces 11th-seed USF in the first round on Saturday, March. 8. at 8 p.m.
Fans are invited to join the Orange in Hartford, Conn. A limited number of full-session tickets for the BIG EAST Championship are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased at the Carrier Dome Box Office or by calling the Box Office at 1-888-DOMETIX. Package tickets for admission to all 11 games of the championship are priced at $105 each.
