KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Syracuse University's Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) is one of 10 finalists for the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for Men’s Lacrosse. Fan voting begins immediately and concludes on May 5. Fan balloting will be combined with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine this year’s winner, who will receive the award during the NCAA Championships in Foxboro, Mass.
Finalists were selected from a list of 20 candidates based on personal qualities that define a complete student- athlete. While on-the-field performance thus far during the college lacrosse season was a factor in determining the finalists, the criteria also includes a high emphasis on classroom, character and community service.
The finalists are: Michael Corbolotti, Cornell; Fletcher Gregory, North Carolina; Pat Grimm, Yale; Craig Massie, Army; Danny Nathan, Cornell; Paul Rabil, Johns Hopkins; Brad Ross, Duke; Ben Rubeor, Virginia; Tommy Scherr, Delaware; and Leveille.
"These ten players are not only among the nation's best college lacrosse players, they are remarkable students and community members who have worked hard to accomplish great things both on and off the field," said Bob Gfeller, Lowe's Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. "Lowe's is proud of its affiliation with the NCAA and college athletics, and we are pleased to help honor these individuals who have displayed a commitment to excellence as true student-athletes.”
A two-time captain, Leveille has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large Second Team in each of the previous two years and will graduate with a degree in accounting in May.
On the field, Leveille has started all 49 games of his Orange career. He currently ranks third in the nation in points per game and leads the team in scoring (38 points), including 22 goals. Leveille has at least one point in each of his last 47 games and is a member of the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. Earlier, this season he became the 21st player in school history to score 100 goals and he ranks 19th and 20th, respectively, at SU in career points (170) and goals (105).
