PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse men and women’s outdoor track & field teams jumpstarted the two-day Sam Howell Invitational with five BIG EAST-qualifying performances, led by three from sophomore Stefanie Slekis, senior Meghan Rowcliffe and sophomore Lynne Mundy in the 3000m steeplechase.
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse men and women’s outdoor track & field teams jumpstarted the two-day Sam Howell Invitational with five BIG EAST-qualifying performances, led by three from sophomore Stefanie Slekis, senior Meghan Rowcliffe and sophomore Lynne Mundy in the 3000m steeplechase.
Slekis powered the Orange attack in the steeplechase with a sixth-place finish and time of 11:03.50. Rowcliffe (11:12.14) and Mundy (11:14.99) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
Sophomore Brad Miller earned an invitation to the BIG EAST Championship with a 15th-place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 14:45.79.
Rookie Catherine DeSarle, fresh off a first-place performance in the 1500m run at the Dick Shea Open, finished ninth in the 5000m run with a time of 17:27.23, qualifying for the conference final. Teammate Jillian Kosinski placed 16th, posting a time of 18:10.19.
Sophomore Monica Ridgeway led the SU charge in field events, tallying a fifth and 10th-place finish in the discus (36.17m) and hammer throw (44.23m), respectively.
Syracuse continues competition at the Sam Howell Invitational on the campus of Princeton on Saturday.
