PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Jillian Drouin and graduate Sheron Mark led the Orange in day two of the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton’s Weaver Track on Saturday. Drouin became the fourth Syracuse student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regional this season, while Mark tallied two first-place finishes.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Jillian Drouin and graduate Sheron Mark led the Orange in day two of the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton’s Weaver Track on Saturday. Drouin became the fourth Syracuse student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regional this season, while Mark tallied two first-place finishes.
Drouin’s jump of 1.75m and first-place performance in the high jump earned the 2007 heptathlon All-American an invitation to the NCAA Regional, held May 30 – 31 in Tallahassee, Fla. She joins teammates Kyle Heath (3000m steeplechase), Aulton Kohn (100m) and Jeff Scull (5000m) as a regional qualifier.
Mark captured event crowns in the long jump and triple jump with ECAC-qualifying marks of 5.85m and 12.20m, respectively. Dating back to the Orange’s indoor season, she has totaled a combined 10 individual crowns in the long jump and triple jump during 2007-08.
Juniors Skyy Simmons and Terry Marshall finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles with an IC4A-qualifying time of 53.89 seconds. Simmons and Marshall, with teammates Jake Puusalu and David Dubin, qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 4x400m relay with a second-place finish and time of 3:17.13.
Sophomore Lorraine Hill (38.67m) and Drouin (37.85m) led seven Syracuse BIG EAST-qualifying performances with a third and fourth-place finish, respectively, in the javelin. Drouin finished third (14.51) in the 100m hurdles and sophomore Uhunoma Osazuwa placed fifth (14.75).
Sophomore Jon Buice qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a fifth-place time of 15.32 seconds in the 110m hurdles. Junior Mike Chitro claimed a conference final invite with a third-place leap of 1.95m in the high jump.
Senior Randy Heubel finished eighth in the javelin with a distance of 55.05m, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championship.

The Syracuse men and women’s outdoor track and field teams continue action in Athens, Georgia at the Bulldog Decathlon on April 10-11 and the Spec Towns Invitational on April 12.
