Orange Sweeps Dartmouth in Dual Race Finale, Wins 12th Consecutive Cup Race

HANOVER, N.H. – The Syracuse men's crew closed out the dual race portion of its season by sweeping Dartmouth on Saturday, May 10 on the Connecticut River. The 10th-ranked varsity eight won the Packard Cup for the third consecutive year, completing a three-year sweep of all four cup races. Syracuse’s second varsity eight beat out the Big Green for its eighth victory of the season. SU’s freshman eight moved its record a perfect 10-0 with its victory. The second freshmen eight race of the day was made a four-race with the Orange finishing first and second.

The Orange varsity eight completed an undefeated cup season for the third-consecutive year by beating Dartmouth handily in the first race of the morning. The Orange came in with a time of 5:26.1, followed by the Big Green at 5:32.0. By winning the Packard Cup, Syracuse defended all four trophies that it won in 2005 and 2006. SU varsity eight finishes the dual race season with an 8-1 mark.

The Syracuse second eight edged past the Dartmouth second varsity in the day’s second race. SU clocked in with a time, 5:32.4, followed by Big Green (5:47.7). The Orange second varsity eight finishes the dual race season with an 8-1 mark.

The Orange freshman eight won its 10th race of the spring. Syracuse posted a time of 5:32.0, ahead of the Dartmouth freshman eight who finished at 5:38.6. SU freshman eight finishes the dual race season with a 10-0 mark.

The final race of the day, the second freshman eight race, was made a four-seat race. Syracuse finished first and second with times of 6:24.9 and 6:25.4, respectively. Dartmouth crossed the line at 6:51.2.

The Orange will next compete at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 18 in Worcester, Mass.
