SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Lacrosse players Katie Rowan and Christina Dove have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District I Women’s At-Large Team. Rowan and Dove will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.
It marks the second straight year Rowan has been named to the All-District First Team. The junior, majoring in inclusive education and sociology, leads the nation in scoring (142 pts.), scoring average (7.1), assists (69) and assists per game (3.45). This season, Rowan has set single-season records for points and assists and become the Orange’s career leader in points (284), goals (178) and assists (106). She is a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a five-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
Dove, a sophomore management major, leads the team in goals with 74, the highest single-season total in school history, and ranks second in scoring with a career-best 96 points. Dove was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. She ranks third in the nation in points and seventh in goals per game (3.74). Dove is a 2007 BIG EAST Academic All-Star and is a three-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs. The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Rowan, Dove and their teammates will be back in action on Friday when they take on Northwestern in the NCAA Championship semifinals in Towson, Md. on Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised live on CBS College Sports and broadcast on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area.
