SYRACUSE, NY – Carmelo Anthony, who helped Syracuse University to the 2003 NCAA Championship, is scheduled to return to the Carrier Dome for an NBA preseason game between the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event will go on sale Saturday, June 14, 10:00 a.m.
“I am a lot more excited about this upcoming preseason knowing that I get to go back and play in the Dome again,” said Anthony. “Syracuse and the Dome are special places for me. It will be great to come back and play in front of everyone again.”
"We will be utilizing this event as a vehicle to help launch an expansion of our programs to Central New York, but at the same time are thrilled to be able to provide the community such an exciting and high-profile entertainment option,” said Arthur Jackson, president and founder of One on One Basketball, Inc. “This is a big time NBA event."
"This is the fifth NBA game which I have helped bring to Syracuse and it is far and away the best matchup yet,” noted Chris Cordes, the New York director of One on One Basketball, Inc. “These are the two highest scoring teams in the NBA, and in addition to Carmelo, who will forever maintain folk-hero status here, and Shaq, who is an iconic NBA figure, these rosters are peppered with current and former All-Stars and League MVPs."
The exhibition-game pairing of Denver and Phoenix features two of the highest-scoring teams from the most recent NBA campaign, as well as two rosters filled with high-profile standouts. In addition to Anthony, a former first-round pick, league all-star and key performer on the current USA Olympic Team, the Nuggets also feature former league MVP Allen Iverson and two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Camby. The Suns are led by former NBA MVP performers Steve Nash and Shaquille O’Neal. The matchup would include no less than 15 former first-round draft choices. In addition to Anthony (third overall, 2003, Denver), Camby (second overall, 1996, Toronto), Iverson (first overall, 1996, Philadelphia), Nash (15th overall, 1996, Phoenix) and O’Neill (first overall, 1992, Orlando), there are Denver’s Steve Hunter (15th overall, 2001, Orlando), Linas Kleiza (25th overall, 2007, Portland), Kenyon Martin (first overall, 2000, New Jersey), Nene (seventh overall, 2002, Denver) and J.R. Smith (18th overall, 2004, New Orleans). The Suns are represented by Leandro Barbosa (28th overall, 2003, San Antonio), Boris Diaw (21st overall, 2003, Atlanta), Grant Hill (third overall, 1994, Detroit), Brian Skinner (22nd overall, 1998, Los Angeles Clippers), Amare Stoudemire (ninth overall, 2002, Phoenix).
