Former Syracuse Rower Goodale to Represent US at Olympic Games

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University rower Anna Goodale has officially been named to the National Rowing Team that will represent the United States in August at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Goodale, a 2005 graduate of Syracuse, will compete in the women's eight event. Goodale rows on the port side, in the number three seat.
The U.S. team has taken the gold medal at the last two World Championships as well as this year's World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The American group is favored to medal at the upcoming Olympic Games.
Seven countries have qualified for the Olympic event by participating in previous World Cups and championships.
At this time in the upcoming Olympic Games, there will be two heats in the preliminary race on Sunday, Aug. 10. The first-place finishers of those heats will go directly to the finals on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The others will race again on Tuesday, Aug. 12 with the top four boats going on to the finals.
Goodale was recognized as a three-time All-American during her career at Syracuse. She earned first-team honors in 2003 and 2005 and was named to the second team in 2004. Goodale was also named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Mid-Atlantic Region All-American First Team her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Goodale also received numerous academic honors during her four years at SU. She was recognized as the 2005 Orange Plus Scholar Athlete of the Year and she received the Soladay Award, the most prestigious award given to a student-athlete by the Department of Athletics. She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I Second Team in 2005 and earned the CRCA National Scholar Athlete Award on three occasions.
During her tenure at Syracuse, the Orange won two BIG EAST Championships in 2002 and 2003 and made two appearances at the NCAA Championship (2002 and 2005).
