Varsity Eight Wins Third-Level Final at IRA

CAMDEN, N.J. – The 2008 IRA Regatta and the Syracuse University rowing season came to a close on Saturday with four Orange boats in competition. The freshman eight competed in the petite final, placing 10th overall, the highest finish of any Orange boat. The varsity eight won the third-level final and finished 11th overall. The second varsity eight was17th overall and the freshman four placed 14th. The Orange finished 14th in the IRA Regatta Ten Eyck points trophy with 63.

The varsity eight won the third-level final in 5:44.805. Oregon State was runner-up in the third-level final with a time of 5:45.001.

In the second varsity eight race, the Orange placed fifth in the third-level final with a time of 6:02.046. Yale (5:53.182) won the race, with Navy (5:53.606), Georgetown (5:58.112) and Michigan (6:00.542) placing second, third and fourth, respectively.

The freshman eight finished fourth in the petite final with a time of 5:53.915. Stanford (5:46.967) won the race, with Wisconsin (5:49.564) and Northeastern (5:53.644) placing third and fourth, respectively.

In the freshman four race, Syracuse’s time of 6:52.424 was second in the third-level final. Delaware won the race in 6:48.658.
