The Orange is coming off a 12-7 campaign last year while going 3-3 in the BIG EAST play. The tough Syracuse schedule features matches against five teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament (Old Dominion, Michigan State, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Connecticut).
The season begins with a neutral site game at Ursinus College versus Old Dominion on Aug. 31. The Orange opens its home schedule versus Colgate on Sept. 2. This will be only the second time that Syracuse has played ODU. The Orange is 22-10 all time versus Colgate.
Syracuse will go on a four-game road trip playing Central Michigan (Sept. 5), Michigan State (Sept. 7), Maryland (Sept. 13) and Delaware (Sept. 14) on its road trip before SU opens BIG EAST play at home versus Louisville (Sep. 19). The Orange will be looking to avenge last year’s 2-1 overtime loss at Louisville. SU continues its weekend home stand with a game against New Hampshire (Sept. 21).
The schedule does not get any easier after this as the Orange go back on the road for three more games against BIG EAST foe Providence (Sept. 26), and non-conference games against Massachusetts (Sept. 28) and Albany (Oct. 1). Syracuse is 15-6-4 all-time versus Providence including a 3-2 loss at home last year. Massachusetts has lost nine consecutive contests against the Orange and Albany has just one win in eight chances versus Syracuse.
Yale will meet Syracuse for the second consecutive season on Oct. 5 before the team sets out for another road BIG EAST contest against Georgetown on Oct. 10. The Orange defeated Yale, 5-2, and Georgetown, 8-2, last year.
The season culminates in a five-game home stand for Syracuse, its longest since 1995. SU plays American (Oct. 12), Connecticut (Oct. 18), Holy Cross (Oct. 19), Villanova (Oct. 24) and Boston College (Oct. 26) to end its regular-season home schedule.
Syracuse defeated No. 12 American, 3-1, last season. Connecticut comes to Syracuse after beating the Orange twice last year including knocking them out of the BIG EAST Championship. The Orange is 1-2 against Holy Cross, 15-7 against Villanova, and 12-6 against Boston College all-time.
The final tune up the team has before the BIG EAST Championship starts on Nov. 8 is a road game versus Rutgers (Nov. 1). The top four teams in the conference will be selected to play in the Championship. The Orange hopes to play off its 2007 success when they made the Championship as a four seed.
