
Chris Liwski ’02 Named as an Alternate to 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Roster

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse University Chris Liwski ’02 was named as an alternate to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team roster. Thirteen crews will represent the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
The U.S. will have crews competing in the women’s single sculls, men’s single sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s double sculls, lightweight women’s double sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s pair, men’s pair, men’s four, lightweight men’s four, women’s eight and men’s eight.
Competing at the 2007 World Championships, Liwski stroked the four with coxswain to a gold medal. He also won bronze in the eight at the 2006 FISA World Championships and finished ninth in the pair at the 2005 FISA World Cup stop in Eton. Liwski served as an alternate for the 2004 Olympic Team and finished fourth in the eight at the 2004 FISA World Cup stop in Lucerne. In 2003, he finished second in the eight at the Kiel Canal Cup and won gold in the eight and finished fourth in the pair at the Pan American Games. Liwski also won gold in the eight at the 2002 Under 23 World Regatta and finished fifth in the four with coxswain at the 1997 FISA Junior World Championships.
Rowing at the 2008 Olympic Games begins August 9 and runs through August 17. Finals are set for August 16-17. The competition will take place at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park, located in Mapo Town in the Shunyi district of Beijing. The rowing course is located about 45 kilometers outside of downtown Beijing. The venue also will host the flat-water and slalom canoe-kayak competitions.
