The Syracuse men's rowing team heads west for the first time this season, traveling to Gold River, Calif., to compete at the 2026 IRA National Championship Regatta. Racing will be held May 29-31 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.
The Orange will field four boats at nationals, with three eights competing in Friday's morning heats and the varsity four participating in a time trial head race in late morning with the semifinals set for the afternoon should the Varsity 4 advance.
Syracuse opens competition in the Varsity 8 at 8:40 a.m. from lane 3 in Heat 4, squaring off against Princeton, Stanford, Cornell, La Salle and Navy. The 2V8 follows at 9:28 a.m. in lane 2, with Cal, Yale, Boston University, La Salle and Georgetown rounding out Heat 4. The 3V8 rounds out the morning slate at 9:52 a.m. from lane 2 in Heat 3 against Princeton, Boston University, Cornell and Wisconsin.
In each of the three eights events, the top three finishers from the heats will advance to the AB semifinals, with the remaining boats moving to the CD semifinals.
The varsity four will compete in a time trial beginning at 11:30 a.m., with semifinal seeding to be determined by the head race results.
Syracuse enters the IRA Championship with the Varsity 8 ranked 12th in the country. The 2V8 was 5th in the latest IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll after earning a bronze medal at Eastern Sprints on May 17 while the 3V8 is ranked 6th in the country. As a team, the Orange head to the IRA Championship ranked 9th in the Ten Eyck Team Points poll.Â
