
Syracuse Goes Hollywood for 'The Express' Premiere

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Downtown Syracuse looked like Hollywood on Friday, Sept. 12 for the premiere of 'The Express' which chronicles the life of Orange legend Ernie Davis. Fans lined Salina Street as the stars from the movie as well as Syracuse all-time greats made their way down the orange carpet to the historic Landmarke Theatre.
The Orange Carpet Show started at 5 p.m. and featured a performance by The Coasters and video clips of how 'The Express' was made. At 6 p.m. local politicians, including Onondaga County Commissioner Joanie Mahoney, SU Chancellor and President Dr. Nancy Cantor and director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross cut a movie reel to officially open the orange carpet.
Syracuse University dignitaries took part in the procession as did members of the 1959 national champion team. Orange legends Jim Brown and Floyd Little were on hand as were members of the production team, including director Gary Fleder.
Fans had the chance to see several of the stars of the movie. Rob Brown plays Davis, while Dennis Quaid plays head coach Ben Schwartzwalder. Other stars in attendance included Omar Benson Miller, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Nicole Behaire and Charles Dutton.
'The Express' will be in theaters nationwide on October 10.
