KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Syracuse senior forward Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) is one of 30 candidates from around the country for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in the men’s soccer division. The award is presented annually to an NCAA Division I men’s senior soccer player who excels both on and off the field.
Candidates were selected based on personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete. While on-the-field performance during their collegiate careers is a factor in determining candidates and the eventual winner, their personal character and off-the-field achievements in the classroom and community are major areas of focus.
Hall has helped the Orange to a 3-0-2 start in 2008. He has two goals on the year and was selected as the Jim Lennox Offensive MVP of the annual Mayor’s Cup. Hall scored the game-winning goal for the Orange in SU’s opening-round victory against UNC-Wilmington at the tournament. He also found the net against Florida Gulf Coast.
Hall has 10 career goals, including three game-winners. He’s totaled 27 points since joining the Orange in 2006.
Off the field, Hall is majoring in finance and is a two-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. In addition, he’s been named to the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) all four semesters he’s been on campus and has earned Martin J. Whitman School Dean’s List honors after every semester. Hall was named to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar First Team in 2007-08.
From the list of 30 nominees, a national media panel will select 10 finalists for the award in October. Those 10 names will be placed on the ballot for nationwide voting beginning on Oct. 9 and concluding on Nov. 19. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced during the NCAA College Cup scheduled for Dec. 12-14 in Frisco, Texas.
CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School and the program was launched during the 2001-02 season in response to the trend of college basketball players leaving early to turn professional. The award was conceived by sportscaster Dick Enberg and was inspired by the story of former Duke star Shane Battier, who could have been an NBA lottery pick, but elected to return to college where he led the Blue Devils to the national championship and earned his degree.
Former Syracuse standout Brad Peetoom was a finalist for the inaugural men’s soccer Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in 2007.
