Time Warner Cable will broadcast the game with Mark Larson and Dale Drypolcher calling the action. The broadcast will also be carried on Orange All-Access, SNY and ESPN GamePlan. Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast on TK 99.5, the flagship station for ISP Sports Network.
Tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX). Individual game tickets for Northeastern, Pittsburgh, Louisville and Connecticut are $36 for adults and $18 for youth (ages 12 and under).
Members of the 2008-09 ’Cuse Kids Club will receive free admission to the Northeastern contests on Saturday. Membership cards should be presented at the Carrier Dome Box office (Gate B) before kickoff to receive your free ticket. In addition to the free entrance, ’Cuse Kids Club members will receive free admission to three select men’s basketball games as well free admission to all women’s basketball and men’s and women’s lacrosse games. Honorary Captain
SU’s honorary captain for the contest will be All-American Chris Gedney. A tight end for SU from 1989-92, Gedney set school records for receptions by a tight end in a season (34 in 1992) and career (91). As a senior, he caught 34 passes for 587 yards and five touchdowns. He helped lead Syracuse to the Fiesta and Peach bowls. Gedney was named a unanimous All-America selection in 1992 and was named to the Syracuse All-Century team in 1999.
As honorary captain, Gedney will participate in all activities, including addressing the team on Friday, participating in the Quad Walk and accompanying 2008 Orange captains Tony Fiammetta, Jake Flaherty, Patrick Shadle and Bruce Williams for the pre-game coin toss.
Women’s Lacrosse Honored at Halftime
The 2008 Orange women’s lacrosse team will be honored by its 2008 BIG EAST title and NCAA Final Four appearance at halftime. The Orange clinched its second consecutive BIG EAST championship en route to its first Final Four appearance in school history. SU led the nation in scoring and recorded a school-record 18 wins last season.
’Cuse Quick Hits
Syracuse ranks fourth nationally and first in the BIG EAST with a 47.35 punting average. Sophomore punter Rob Long ranks sixth among NCAA punters and is first in the BIG EAST with a 47.4 net punting average.
Out of the four different players who have scored touchdowns this season, three have found the endzone for the first time. Freshman receiver Marcus Sales recorded his first touchdown grab against Penn State, while sophomore tight ends Mike Owen and freshman Nick Provo both scored their first collegiate touchdowns against Akron.
Senior kicker Patrick Shadle converted two field goals, both 44-yard kicks, in the second quarter of the Penn State game to move past Tim Vesling for seventh place on the program’s career field goals made list with 29. He is SU’s career leader in field goal percentage (29-of-37, .784) and has totaled 137 career points. Shadle is tied for the BIG EAST league lead in PAT percentage having converted all six PAT attempts for the Orange this season. The Morgantown, W.Va.’s .750 field goal percentage is tied for second among BIG EAST kickers. Shadle was the third Orange to be recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performance. Seniors safety A.J. Brown and tailback Curtis Brinkley picked up the awards in the first two weeks of play.
Weekend Festivities
Pre-game activities on the Syracuse University Quad begin at 12:30 p.m. The 2008 Orange football team Quad Walk will begin at 1:15 p.m. followed by the Syracuse University Marching Band Drum Line performance in front of Hendricks Chapel and the Marching Band Pep Rally to gets fans geared up for kickoff. The SU dance team will be on hand and fans will have the opportunity to pick up Orange apparel on the Quad. There will also be a couple radio stations broadcasting from the Quad’s festivities.
Grupo Pagán, a Latin-American band based in Syracuse, will entertain the crowd on the Quad prior to the football game. The band is led by Edgar Pagan, vocals and bass. The band also features Rhonda Arns on vocals, Josh Dekaney on percussion, Kenny Budd on guitar, Frank Neubert on drums, and Bill DiCosimo on keyboards. They play regularly at the Dinosaur Barbecue on Franklin St. in Syracuse.
In addition to the musical entertainment, there will be children’s games and food and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Coolers and/or alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the Quad.
Homecoming Features
Homecoming traditions, including the parade, pep rally, bonfire and all-alumni-and-campus party, will take place during the course of the weekend. A pre-game barbecue and tailgate party will be held on the Quad before the Orange kicks off against Northeastern.
Visitors to for the Homecoming Weekend will also have the opportunity to experience the Syracuse vision of Scholarship in Action in a variety of different ways during the course of the weekend. The newly constructed, state-of-the-art Life Sciences Complex – a 230,000-square-foot structure that features a research wing housing 27 interconnected laboratories, an imaging center and a genomics center for the study of genetics – will be open for tours. Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the campus, visit the restored Slocum Hall and attend breakfast with Deans from the nine schools and colleges.
The Homecoming weekend will also feature a variety of exhibitions at the University Archives, SUArt Gallaries, The Warehouse Gallery and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Michelangelo: The Man and the Myth – the works of a Renaissance master, will highlight the list of exclusive art exhibitions available over the weekend. Guests will also have the opportunity to attend a mock trial program demonstration and other shows including “From Sonnets to Spirituals” at Syracuse Stage and the Redhouse Theater.
