No. 3 Syracuse Orange Continues to Roll with 10-0 Victory Versus New Hampshire Wildcats

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The third-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team received hat-tricks from senior midfielder Shannon Taylor and freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica as SU rolled to a 10-0 victory versus New Hampshire today at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange improves to 8-0 with the win. New Hampshire moves to 4-4.
Sophomore midfielder Lena Voelmle, senior forward Brittany Shannon, freshman midfielder Mariana Vernet and junior forward Tracy Deitrick also scored for SU.
Taylor, Loncarica, Conrad and sophomore back Maggie Befort had two assists apiece for Syracuse. Senior back Heather Doran and Vernet both added an assist as well.
Voelmle scored first for the Orange at 10:03. Loncarica followed with two goals at 12:40 and 17:09. Taylor recorded the next two goals for SU at 20:48 and 25:11. Deitrick registered her first goal season to close out the first half at 34:04.
The onslaught continued in the second half with Loncarica scoring her third goal of the day at 47:50. Vernet recorded the next SU goal at 51:48 and Shannon tallied her first goal of the season at 55:46. Taylor completed her hat-trick at 63:23 to round-out the scoring.
Senior goalkeeper Heather Hess made two saves in 46:21 in the cage to improve to 8-0 on the year. Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Puggi played the final 23:39 to preserve the shutout.
The Orange outshot the Wildcats, 30-9. SU also had a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The third-ranked Orange returns to the road for two contests next weekend. SU travels to BIG EAST foe Providence on Friday, September 26 at 6 p.m. Syracuse finishes the weekend at Massachusetts on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m.
