SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Members of the Syracuse women’s rowing team volunteered at the Westcott Community Cultural Fair yesterday. The Orange assisted with the setup of seating, stages, parade barricades and activities in the kids’ Corner.
The Westcott Community Center seeks to serve not only the local Westcott area, but the entire metropolitan Syracuse area. Its goal is to provide a safe, accessible community space for activities and programs that meet community needs; strengthening and uniting the community by bringing together its diverse elements; and raising conscious awareness through public education, art and to promote the full inclusion of all persons.
The Cultural Fair included a parade, live performances, hands-on-activities for children of all ages, delicious ethnic food, and many street vendors with locally made, handcrafted creations.
Sunday’s volunteer effort was part of ‘Cuse Cares Community Service Program.
‘Cuse Cares is supported by Citizens Bank and immerses Syracuse University student-athletes and coaches in the community. For the past 11 years the 'Cuse Cares program has been recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Public Service (CAPS), given annually to Syracuse University students and student organizations that exemplify the highest ideal of sustained, quality service to the Syracuse community.
