SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s ice hockey team begins the season at Colgate on Wednesday, October 1. In the days leading up to the first contest, learn more about the team on suathletics.com.
Freshman Katelyn Bero will be called upon for her speed and agility when the Orange faceoff against its opponents. Before joining the Syracuse lineup, Bero played for the Cornwall Typhoons Intermediate AA from 2006-2008. Bero skated in 56 contests and scored eight goals with 14 assists.
The Orange will play 13 home games in 2008-09. The majority of SU’s home contests will be held at the Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion, but the Orange will be featured in at least two games at the Onondaga County War Memorial in downtown Syracuse. The remaining 17 games will be on the road.
The Orange will be part of the College Hockey America (CHA) league, which was founded in 1999. The league includes Mercyhurst, Niagara, Robert Morris and Wayne State. SU will play each of the four conference opponents four times this season.
Learn more about Bero, a health and exercise science major, in today's edition of "Meet the Original Orange."
What is your attitude and outlook for Syracuse’s first season?
I want to work harder than I did on any of my previous teams and I want our team to succeed to prove ourselves as Division I material.
What is the best part about being an Orange athlete?
The best part is being a part of such a competitive athletic environment.
I bet you’d never guess THIS about me…
I was a figure skater for almost the same amount of years I was a hockey player.
What is your fondest hockey experience?
Winning the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in ’06, ’07 and ’08 and being named to the All-Star team that participated in the High Performance camp.
Why did you choose SU because?
It has a good Native American program that would give me extra support and it seemed like a happening place where I won’t get bored.
Who is your favorite hockey player?
Saku Kiovu
What is your favorite NHL team(s)?
The Montreal Canadiens and the Atlanta Thrashers.
Besides hockey, I could probably beat you in…
Ping- pong.
You’ll hear this playing on my "Pre-Game Pump-Up" List…
Way I Are/ Better off Alone Remix and World Hold on Club Remix.
My aspiration as a member of the Original Orange is…
To try my hardest and do my best and also make sure our team can be the best we can.
