Jill Powers got UMass on the board just one minute into the second half by sticking in the rebound of a Mary Shea shot. In the 45th minute, Katie Kelly brought the ball into the circle on the left side and found Katelyn Orlando open in front of the goal, who tipped it in to get UMass within two, 4-2.
Syracuse got the lead back to three in the 50th minute when freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica scored her ninth goal of the season on a flick shot off a penalty corner.
Just 25 seconds later Orlando struck again, this time taking a crossing pass from Powers on the right and finding the back of the goal for the second time of the game and fifth time this season, making it a 5-3 game.
With just over seven minutes left in the game, Makaela Potts sent a pass across the circle that found the stick of Powers for her second marker of the game.
