PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 29 for his performance against a pair of top 25 teams over the weekend. It’s the second time this season Cavicchia has been recognized by the conference.
Cavicchia posted a 0.47 goals-against average in two games and recorded his sixth shutout of the season, blanking #20/22 Providence, 3-0, on Sept. 26. Cavicchia finished with two saves against the Friars with both of his stops coming in the second half.
Against #2/5 Connecticut on Sept. 28, Cavicchia played brilliantly, keeping the contest scoreless until the 101st minute. He made six saves, including two in the second half and two in the first overtime to give SU a chance to win the match. His six-stop performance was one short of his season high.
With the eight saves last weekend, Cavicchia became the third SU goalie to surpass 250 saves for his career. He now has 256 in 60 career contests. He has 35 stops in 2008 and owns a goals-against average of 0.52.
The Orange returns to action Friday, Oct. 3 when it plays nationally-ranked USF. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the USF Soccer Stadium in Tampa.
