ST. LOUIS – Orange soccer standout Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) was selected with the ninth pick in the third round of the 2009 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Thursday, Jan. 15. He was taken by Toronto FC with the 39th overall pick.
Hall is the fifth player produced by Orange head coach Dean Foti to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft and the first since Richard Asante in 2007.
Hall, a forward, was named to the 2008 All-BIG EAST Second Team after placing second on the Orange with 13 points (4g, 5a). His five assists tied for the team lead and two of his four goals were game-winners. In his three-year career at Syracuse, Hall competed in 51 matches and scored 13 goals. He also added 10 assists for a total of 36 career points.
Hall is Syracuse’s second-highest MLS draft selection. Asante remains the highest. He was taken 27th overall by Toronto two years ago. Eric Puls and Paul Young were taken in the inaugural MLS Draft in 1996 with the 112th and 121st picks, respectively, and Chris Aloisi was taken by Los Angeles with the 57th overall choice in 2004.
Hall joins Sam Cronin (Wake Forest), O’Brian White (Connecticut), Stefan Frei (California) and Mike Grella (Duke) as players selected by Toronto on Thursday. Cronin, White and Frei were all taken in the first round.
Thursday’s draft consisted of four rounds and 60 total selections. Akron’s Steve Zakuani was chosen with the No. 1 overall pick by the Seattle Sounders.
