Freshmen Shine in 3-3 Tie at No. 6 BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshmen Holly Carrie-Mattimoe and Isabel Menard accounted for two of Syracuse's three goals in its 3-3 tie at No. 6 Boston College on Friday afternoon. The pair tallied their first goals as Orange women, while junior co-captain Stefanie Marty added one to the tie. Syracuse advances to a 0-2-1 record, while the Eagles are 0-1-2.
Senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel did not surrender a goal till late in the first period when the Eagles' top-scorer senior Allie Thunstrom tallied her first goal of the afternoon with less than a minute remaining in the opening period. Schoedel finished the day with 20 saves on 23 shots, while BC's Corinne Boyles had 30 saves on 33 SU shots.
BC added the next two goals at the 5:05 and 10:26 mark of the second period, with contributions from sophomore Alison Szlosek and Thunstrom to make the score 3-0. The Orange responded in the last 24 seconds of the period when freshman Jacquie Greco and senior Brittaney Maschmeyer connected with Marty for her first goal of the season. The goal was the result of a power play opportunity and brought the Orange back into the game, 3-1.
The third period was all Orange as Carrie-Mattimoe added her first career point at the midway point, with assists from junior co-captains Julie Rising and Marty. Eight minutes later, Menard added an unassisted goal to settle the game, 3-3.
Syracuse will travel to Durham, N.H. to take the ice against fourth-ranked New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m.
