Orange Earns Praise From Fans

BALTIMORE – Once again Syracuse lacrosse has been recognized by fans around the nation. The Orange took home five Inside Lacrosse "Laxie Awards" for the second straight season in categories ranging from "Game of the Year” to "Highlight Reel Goal of the Year.” The winners were selected in an online vote by the fans.
Lacrosse fans chose SU head coach John Desko as “Coach of the Year” and the Orange as “Team of the Year” for the second consecutive season. Attackman Cody Jamieson was voted the “Clutch Performer of the Year" after scoring the winning goal in overtime of the NCAA title game against Cornell. In addition, Kenny Nims' game-tying tally with 4.5 seconds left in regulation versus the Big Red was tabbed the “Highlight Reel Goal of the Year.”
The aforementioned NCAA final between Syracuse and Cornell was picked as the 2009 "Game of the Year." The Orange trailed by three late in the fourth quarter before rallying to tie the game 9-9 on Nims' last-second goal. The Big Red won the faceoff in overtime, but turned the ball over, setting the stage for Jamieson's championship-clinching score.
It was the second consecutive year a game involving Syracuse was voted “Game of the Year.” The NCAA semifinal between the Orange and Virginia earned the nod in 2008.
