BALTIMORE – The Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team is ranked second in this year's Lacrosse Magazine annual preseason Division I rankings. It is the second No. 2 preseason ranking for the Orange. Syracuse also listed second in the 2010 Face-Off Yearbook rankings compiled by Inside Lacrosse.
Duke claimed the top spot in the Lacrosse Magazine poll and also garnered the publication's Preseason Player of the Year in senior Ned Crotty. The Blue Devils were followed by the Orange and Virginia. North Carolina and Johns Hopkins rounded out the top five.
Syracuse, the two-time defending NCAA champions returns five starters, including last year's Division I goals leader in junior attackman Stephen Keogh. Head coach John Desko enters his 12th campaign at the Orange helm. He has five national championships in his first 11 seasons and is the Division I active leader in winning percentage with a 134-42 (.761) record.
The Orange begins the 2010 campaign on Feb. 7 with a three-way scrimmage against Le Moyne and Hofstra at the Carrier Dome.
