Schirm Locks Up IC4A Bid in Boston

Boston University Valentine Invitational Day Two Results
BOSTON, Mass. – The Syracuse men's distance team took part in the second day of the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Saturday following a very successful showing by the women's distance contingent on Friday at BU's Tennis and Track Center.
Four member of the Orange spread out in three different races with sophomore Erin Schirm putting his best foot forward in 1,000-meter race with a sixth-place finish, IC4A-qualifying time of 2:27.49. Schirm's clip was the best time any indoor member has ran in the 1,000-meter as he finished ahead of 74 other competitors on Saturday.
Sophomore Steve Weeks finished in 50th place with a BIG EAST-qualifying mark of 4:18.83 in the mile run. Weeks beat out 127 other harriers in the mile challenge.
Turning to the 3,000-meter run, senior Robbie Cary posted a 43rd place time of 8:38.57 while sophomore Michael Brocks stayed near his teammate the entire run, finishing in 44th just inches behind Cary with a mark of 8:38.89. Cary finished before 121 other runners while Brocks crossed the tape ahead of 120 other challengers.
With the indoor season in the books, the Orange track & field team turns its attention to the BIG EAST Championship starting up next Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Armory Track in Manhattan. The two-day conference culmination will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 21.
