Flynn Named To NABC All-District Squad

SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse sophomore Jonny Flynn has been named first-team All-District 5 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The NABC selected first and second squads from 24 districts. First-team honorees are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America Team that will be announced on April 4.
Joining Flynn on the NABC District 5 First Team are: Hasheem Thabeet (Connecticut), Jerel McNeal (Marquette), Terrence Williams (Louisville) and Luke Harangody (Notre Dame). Second team selections included DeJuan Blair (Pittsburgh), Sam Young (Pittsburgh), Dante Cunningham (Villanova), Da'Sean Butler (West Virginia) and Jeff Adrien (Connecticut).
Flynn has started all 30 games for Syracuse this season. He leads the team in scoring (17.0), assist (6.4), steal (1.5) and minutes played (35.9) averages. He is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award and the Bob Cousy Award. His 191 assists represent the second-best total by a sophomore in school history. It ranks 10th on the SU single-season ledger, just one assist behind Leo Rautins in the ninth slot. Flynn is also one of 51 players in Syracuse history who have scored 1,000 career points.
He has been named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week once this season and earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll four different times. Flynn was named MVP of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.
Syracuse will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 7, when the 25/25 Orange (22-8, 10-7) play at #11/16 Marquette (23-7, 12-5). The Orange have already earned a first-round bye in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. Syracuse will join the bracket on Wednesday, March 11, and play one of the first-round winners.
