PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Orange senior shortstop Jamie Kelling earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the conference announced Monday. Kelling helped guide the Syracuse (26-14, 11-5) softball team in an eight-game week where the Orange finished with a 7-1 record, including securing a victory against No. 17/18 Louisville.
Kelling's honor is the seventh by a member of the Syracuse softball team this season. Junior Brittany Gardner was named pitcher of the week on two occasions, freshman Stephanie Watts earned honor roll accolades twice and freshman ace Jenna Caira was also named pitcher of the week.
The Davenport, Iowa native finished the week 13-for-23 at the plate after starting in every game. She scored at least one run in all but two games and had five multi-hit games. Kelling led the Orange with six steals. In SU's 10-5 upset of nationally-ranked UofL, the shortstop was a solid 2-for-4 scoring two runs. It was SU's first victory against a ranked team since 2006 when the Orange swept No. 25 DePaul.
Kelling ended the week with a .565 batting average and had a .652 slugging percentage. She is one of only three players to have started every game this season. She has a team-leading 48 hits and 17 steals in 19 attempts.
Kelling and the rest of the Orange are back in action on Wednesday, April 22 hosting Siena in their final non-conference doubleheader of the season. Action begins at 5 p.m. at the SU Softball Stadium at Skytop.
