PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse softball senior Nicole Miller earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the conference announced Monday. Miller helped lead an Orange team to a 3-1 week in league play with a split at Connecticut on Monday, March 30 and a sweep of Villanova on Sunday, April 5.
Miller's honor is the fifth by a member of the Syracuse softball team this season. Junior Brittany Gardner was named pitcher of the week on two occasions, while freshman Stephanie Watts earned honor roll accolades twice, as well.
The Simi Valley, Calif. native sparked a nine-run comeback in game one of the doubleheader at UConn. Down 6-2 heading into the seventh, Miller opened the inning with a double, only to score on a double from classmate Lindsay Wasek. In her next at-bat in the same inning, Miller slammed another double to the outfield to put the Orange up, 9-6. She scored the 11th and final run of the game on a single from Wasek.
On Sunday, the Orange hosted Nova in a noon doubleheader. Miller finished 2-for-3 in SU's 5-0 shutout in game one, accounting for three of the team's five RBI. In game two, the first baseman finished 1-for-3 with a run after hitting her second home run of the season. It was her fourth career home run.
Miller led the Orange in the four games with a .545 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage. For the season, she leads the Orange with 172 putouts.
Miller and the rest of the Orange are back in action on Wednesday, April 8 at St. John's. Action begins at 3 p.m. Syracuse returns home on Saturday to host Georgetown in a noon doubleheader at the SU Softball Stadium.
