BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hattan posted her second consecutive shutout in the Syracuse women's soccer squad's 1-0 victory at Binghamton on Sunday, Sept. 6. The victory extended the Orange's winning streak and improves its record to 2-2-1, while Binghamton goes to 0-3-1.
The only score of the game came in the 47th minute when Syracuse was credited with an own goal after the ball bounced off a Binghamton defender past Bearcats' goalkeeper Erin Iman into the net.
“We played well today. It was our best performance of the year,” said Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon. “We played solid defensively and, although we scored an own goal, created many scoring opportunities. It's really the first game of the season where everyone contributed at a high level. The development of the team is excellent. We have won two straight road games, which is something to build on. We seem to get better every game.”
Bennett-Hattan made three saves her for second shutout of the season, improving her school-record total to 18.
The Orange outshot Binghamton, 10-5, and recorded eight corner kicks to three for BU. Jen McEachron made three saves in the first half for the Bearcats. Iman also finished with three stops.
The victory was the second straight for the Orange on the road. It marks the first time Syracuse has won back-to-back road games since the 2003 campaign when SU won its first two away contests of the season.
Syracuse is back on the road on Friday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to face Colgate at 7 p.m.
