
Orange Ends Road Trip at Louisville

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The RV/RV Orange women's basketball team (15-3, 2-3) concludes its three-game road trip at Louisville (10-8, 2-3) on Saturday, January 19 at 2 p.m. SU will attempt to end its two-game slide and move to 16-3 for only the second time in its 39-year history. With a win, Syracuse would have its first win at Freedom Hall and would guarantee the Orange its third consecutive winning season.

Last Time Out
The Orange was narrowly defeated, 71-69, by Providence (12-6, 3-2) in its last outing. While SU spent most of the game playing catch-up against the Friars, it found itself down 71-67 with 28 seconds remaining. Despite controlling the ball with two shot from the field and six free-throw attempts, the Orange could only come up with two more points to settle the two-point defeat. Senior forward Juanita Ward scored 18 points and led the Orange in scoring for her second consecutive game. Freshman center Kayla Alexander backed Ward with 14 points, while fellow freshman guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas was one rebound shy of her second career double-double with and 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds to go along with a team-best three assists. Sophomore guard Lynnae Lampkins earned her first collegiate start for an injured junior guard Tasha Harris, who missed her first game in 81 career contests.
Orange Against the Cardinals
Louisville leads the all-time series against the Orange, 4-2. The teams have played annually since the Cardinals joined the BIG EAST conference in 2005-06. The only previous game between the teams was played in 1986-87 when Orange great Felisha Legette led SU to a 73-62 victory at Manley Field House. Syracuse's last victory came in the 2007-08 season at the Carrier Dome with a score of 76-59, while the Cardinals defeated the Orange, 78-57, at Freedom Hall last year. SU currently holds a 2-1 advantage in games played in Syracuse, while the Cardinals remain undefeated against the Orange on their home court.
Scouting Louisville
The Cardinals enter Saturday's contest on a two-game losing streak. In its last game, Louisville lost to No. 4 Notre Dame, 78-60. Sophomore Monique Reid led the Cardinals with 23 points and nine rebounds, but Louisville shot just 37 percent in the second half and turned the ball over 20 times to lead to its defeat. The Cardinals opened up a 12-point lead behind Reid and Keshia Hines in the first 15 minutes, but committed four turnovers to help the Irish go on a 16-4 run to close out the half. Despite briefly leading by five in the second half, Louisville eventually ran out of gas. Reid is averaging team-highs in points (16.0 and rebounds (8.8) this season.
