
Orange Returns Home to Face St. John's

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The rv/rv Syracuse University women's basketball team (16-3, 3-3) returns to the Carrier Dome to host rv/rv St. John's (16-3, 4-2) on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. The Orange will attempt to move to 17-3 for only the second time in its 39-year history. Fans can tune to SU's flagship station, WTLA 1200 AM and 97.7 FM (WSGO 1440 AM and 100.1 FM in Oswego), or Syracuse's student station, WJPZ 89.1 FM. Michael on the Move
Senior forward Nicole Michael's 1,554 career points are just 51 shy of the Syracuse career record and her 863 rebounds are 64 short of the top spot. Michael is currently second in points and third in rebounds on the all-time list, while her 382 free throws made and 543 free throws attempted are both first. She registered 15 points and a team-best nine rebounds against Louisville during a season-high 37 minutes. The senior has reached double-figures in points a team-high 15 times, including a team-best eight 15-plus point games this season.
Last Time Out
Junior guard Erica Morrow regained her form with 23 points on 61.5 percent (8-13) shooting from the floor, including 71.4 percent (5-7) from 3-point range as the rv/rv Orange basketball team snapped its two-game losing streak with a 64-58 victory at Louisville on January 23. Senior forward Nicole Michael added 15 points as Syracuse guaranteed itself its third consecutive winning season. SU shot 20-of-45 (.444) from the floor, including 7-of-14 (.571) from behind the arc, while limiting the Cardinals to just 30.0 percent (21-70) shooting. Louisville, however, took 25 more shots than Syracuse.
Orange Against the Red Storm
Syracuse has played St. John's more than any other BIG EAST opponent, facing the Red Storm 51 times in a series dating back to 1979-80. Syracuse leads the all-time series against St. John's, 27-24, including victories in three of the last four meetings. Last year, the Orange traveled to Jamaica, N.Y. and posted a one-point, 79-78, victory at Carnesecca Arena. Michael commanded the offense with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds, while recording a game-high three steals. The Orange and Red Storm had a rematch in the BIG EAST Tournament in Hartford, Conn., when graduated senior Chandrea Jones set the SU single-season scoring record after tallying 10 points in a 63-61 loss. Her 503 points moved Michael's 501 points during the 2006-07 season into second place.
Scouting St. John's
The Red Storm is 16-3 overall and 4-2 in BIG EAST play this season. Three players scored in double figures, including Da'Shena Stevens, who had a 15-point performance in SJU's 57-55 win against South Florida on January 23. Stevens has scored 10 or more points in 16 games, while leading the Red Storm in both points and rebounds with 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. St. John's has limited its opponents to just 26.2 percent (197-302) shooting from behind the 3-point line.
