
Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Sarah Hayes (Cypress, Texas) and senior Ben Santerre (Glendale, Ariz.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of January 5, 2010.
Hayes is a junior defensive specialist on the Syracuse volleyball team. She played in 29 matches for the Orange this season and she finished fifth on the team with 107 digs. Hayes recorded a career-high 11 digs against William & Mary earlier this season and posted a career-best 1.000 hitting percentage against South Florida.
Hayes is a marketing management major in the Whitman School of Management. She was recently elected team captain for the 2010-11 season.
Santerre is a senior on the swimming and diving team. He last represented SU in the 500-yard freestyle at the Bucknell Open, earning an eight-place finish with a 4:51.05 while placing 11th with a 16:49.19 in the 1650-yard freestyle. He also competed in the Syracuse Invitational earlier this season, where he placed eighth in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:38.65), 15th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.51) and was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team which placed third (3:18.94).
Santerre is a dual major in communication and rhetoric studies and economics. The Orange is currently in Puerto Rico for semester break competition until January 13.
