ITHACA, N.Y. - Syracuse (21-3) completed a perfect non-conference schedule with a 3-0 sweep of Cornell (4-12) on Tuesday night at Newman Arena. An all-around effort led the Orange to victory, with 11 players seeing court time during the match.
Freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe led the eight student-athletes who logged kills for the Orange with nine, hitting .692 while leading the defensive effort with six block assists. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre added eight kills and a match-high 18 digs while senior outside hitter Hayley Todd had eight kills while adding five digs and three blocks. Sophomore middle Samantha Hinz paired seven kills with four blocks while junior outside Erin Little had five kills and four digs. Senior right side Mindy Stanislovaitis and freshman Samantha Clarey rounded out the offense with two and one kills, respectively. Sophomore Laura Homann and freshman Amanda Kullman split time running the offense, dishing out 16 and 12 assists, respectively.
Defensively, junior Ashley Williams paced the backrow with 16 digs while senior Sarah Hayes added three.
Syracuse dominated Cornell from the outset, taking the first game 25-12 before battling to a 25-23 win in the second set. The Orange completed the sweep with a 25-16 third-set win.
SU remains on the road for a two-match BIG EAST road swing at Notre Dame and DePaul beginning Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
