
Syracuse Drops Hard Fought Match to Bearcats

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange (23-8, 5-8) fell to the No. 19 Cincinnati Bearcats (25-4, 12-1) 3-2, on Friday evening in the Women's Building. Syracuse won the first two sets, by the Bearcats took the next three to win the match. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre led the offense with 17 kills and three service aces, while senior defensive specialist Sarah Hayes guarded the back court with a team-high 15 digs. The Orange stood tall with a team total of 18.5 blocks.
Syracuse defeated Cincinnati in the first 25-19 with a pair of kills by sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz to start the set off right. The Orange stayed strong with six blocks throughout the set including a solo by Todd. Senior outside hitter Mindy Stanislovaitis and Todd both finished with five block assists, with Todd notching four solo blocks as well. Hinz finished the match with a game-high eight block assists.
Cincinnati came back from an 0-2 deficit to win the final three sets 25-21, 25-23 and 15-10. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Niemer dominated the offense with 22 kills and seven blocks. Freshman libero Emily MacIntyre set the tone for the defense with 19 digs.
Syracuse wraps up its regular-season schedule when it hosts Cincinnati on Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m. in the Women's Building.
