The volleyball squad wraps up its 2010 regular-season schedule when it hosts Louisville on Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m. Syracuse (23-8, 5-8) looks to exact revenge on the Louisville (17-7, 11-2), which has bounced the Orange from the BIG EAST Championship in each of the past three seasons.
BIG EAST Breakdown
Syracuse enters Sunday's match in ninth place in conference, just out of BIG EAST Championship contention at 5-8 in conference. Louisville enters the match tied for second in the league with Marquette at 11-2 overall and has already locked up a conference tournament bid.
The top eight teams in conference qualify for the BIG EAST Championship, based on conference record. Entering the weekend, five teams - Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette, Villanova and Notre Dame - have locked up bids while the final three seeds remain open.
Senior Weekend
Sunday's match marks the home finale in the careers of seniors Sarah Hayes, Mindy Stanislovaitis and Hayley Todd. The trio has led the Orange to postseason appearances in each of their four seasons on the hill while all being named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team three times.
Scouting the Orange
Syracuse enters the match off a heartbreaking 2-3 loss to Cincinnati on Friday. The Orange had the league-leading Bearcats on the ropes after winning the first two sets, but Cincinnati surged, claiming the final three to earn the win.
Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre leads the team both offensively and defensively, notching 337 kills, a 3.12 kills per set average and 309 digs with a 2.86 digs per set average on the season. Senior Hayley Todd is a close second with 317 kills and a 3.05 kills per set average with 117 digs and 72 blocks while classmate Mindy Stanislovaitis is third with 232 kills and a 2.30 kills per set average.
Defensively, junior libero Ashley Williams is second with 300 digs and a 3.41 digs per set average while senior Sarah Hayes has 221 digs for a 2.08 digs per set average.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville enters Sunday's match coming off a 2-3 loss at Marquette on Friday. The Cardinals have won three of its last five and three of its last four BIG EAST contests.
The 2009 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Lola Arslanbekova leads the Cardinals offensively with 337 kills and a 3.74 kills per set average. Freshman setter Taylor Brauneis directs the offense in a 6-1 formation with 828 assists and a 8.72 assists per set average.
Defensively, freshman libero Caitlin Welch sets the standard in the back row with 339 digs while Brauneis is second with 181.
Syracuse-Louisville Series
The Cardinals have a commanding 13-0 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1982. In addition to the annual BIG EAST meeting, the teams have met in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship in each of the past three seasons.
