Nine Home Games; NFL Venues Highlight 2011 Men's Lacrosse Schedule

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will play 15 regular-season games in 2011. The team's schedule, released on Tuesday, Nov. 9 by head coach John Desko, is highlighted by nine home dates, including visits to the Carrier Dome by three of last year's four national semifinalists.
When the team isn't home it will play in some of the finest pro football stadiums in the nation. Three of its six away games are scheduled for NFL venues. The team will make appearances at M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens), New Meadowlands Stadium (New York Giants and Jets) and Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots). In addition, the Orange will visit Rentschler Field, home of University of Connecticut football team.
The 2011 campaign kicks off with three games in the Carrier Dome. For the second year in a row, the Orange opens the year against Denver (Feb. 20). The following week, the squad looks to avenge its first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Army when the Black Knights return to Syracuse on Feb. 27. The homestand concludes on March 6 when the Orange welcomes perennial national-title contender Virginia to the Dome.
Syracuse opens BIG EAST Conference play with a neutral-site matchup against Georgetown at the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic in Baltimore. The game is the opening contest of a college lacrosse tripleheader at M&T Bank Stadium.
Following its date with the Hoyas, Syracuse returns home for games against Albany (March 15) and longtime rival Johns Hopkins (March 19) before ending the month with a BIG EAST road match at Villanova on March 26.
April begins with a pair of games in New Jersey. The Orange faces defending NCAA champion Duke in the nightcap of the Konica Minolta Big City Classic, another lacrosse tripleheader, held at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford on April 3.The following week, Syracuse travels to Princeton for an April 9 game against the Tigers.
The Orange returns to the Carrier Dome to entertain local rival Cornell (April 12) before traveling to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. for an April 16 conference tilt with Providence. Syracuse has experienced recent success at Gillette, winning consecutive national titles there in 2008 and 2009.
Syracuse has the advantage of playing three of its last four games at home. The Kraus-Simmons Trophy will be on the line when the Orange hosts Hobart (April 19) in its final non-conference game. The Orange also hosts BIG EAST foes Notre Dame (April 30) and St. John's (May 7) to finish out the year. In between is a trip to East Hartford, Conn. as Syracuse faces Rutgers in the second annual ESPNU Warrior Classic at Rentschler Field on April 23.
Overall, eight of the Orange's 2011 opponents qualified for last year's NCAA Championship with Duke, Notre Dame, Cornell and Virginia advancing to the Final Four. Nine of the teams Syracuse will face had winning records in 2010.
In addition to the 15 regular-season dates, the Orange hosts Le Moyne and Hofstra in a three-way scrimmage on Feb. 5 and welcomes Maryland to the Carrier Dome for an exhibition on Feb. 10.
The 2011 campaign marks the 92nd varsity lacrosse season at Syracuse. Last season, the Orange won the inaugural BIG EAST regular-season championship and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 30th time in school history.
