SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Alessondra Parra (Vienna, Va.) and freshman Brandon Triche (Jamesville, N.Y.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 1, 2010.
Parra is a member of the tennis team. She has helped the team to a 9-2 overall record, including an undefeated 3-0 mark in conference play. Parra helped the Orange go 3-0 over the weekend with victories against Niagara, Buffalo and BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh.
Parra is a broadcast journalism major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The tennis team hosts Bucknell at the Drumlins Tennis Center on Sunday, March 7 at 11 a.m.
Triche is a guard on the men's basketball team. He has started all 29 games for the Orange, averaging 8.6 points per game and 3.1 assists per game. Triche scored a career-high 27 points against Oakland and helped SU to a No. 1 overall ranking for the fourth time in program history.
Triche is enrolled in the College of Human Ecology. The men's basketball team wraps up its home schedule against St. John's on Tuesday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
