
Softball Returns to Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. – Syracuse (3-7) returns to Louisiana for the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge. The Orange will face three teams in bracket play beginning on Friday, March 5 and looks to advance to the championship on Sunday, March 7. SU will face Campbell, South Alabama and 16/16 LSU.

Last At Bat
The Orange faced its toughest competition of the season at the prestigious Cathedral Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. Syracuse matched up against four opponents either nationally ranked or receiving votes, leading both No. 13 Texas and No. 8 Stanford at points in the contests. SU fell to Texas, Stanford, Tennessee and Oregon State while defeating Cal State Fullerton.
Junior Hallie Gibbs led the team throughout the courts of the weekend, batting .357 (5-for-14) with a triple and six RBI. Sophomore Stephanie Watts was also a leader for the Orange, batting .308 (4-for-13) while freshman Ashley Dimon hit .333 while recording her first collegiate hit.
Sophomore Lisaira Daniels was 5-for-17 with three doubles and a team-best eight total bases while freshman lead off hitter Veronica Grant hit .286 with six total bases. Freshman Meghan Boston had a pair of doubles on the weekend while junior Rachel Helman tripled and sophomore Kelly Saco homered against No. 8 Stanford.
Sophomore Jenna Caira was the leading pitcher for the Orange, recording a 2.80 ERA in three appearances. The Toronto, Ontario native struck out 26 in 200 innings of work. Junior Angie Sagnelli made her season debut against Stanford, allowing a pair of earned runs in 2.2 innings while senior Brittany Gardner recorded a 5.25 ERA in 4.0 innings pitched.
